Second Teacher Training in Perugia

2015_PerugiaSecond successful teacher exchange and training and Kick-Off for Evidence-based Education in School Inclusion Online: EBE-EUSMOSI enables continuation of mobility for 20 Italian and 20 Spanish teachers

From 7th to 11th of September, the second Teacher Training was organized by EBE-EUSMOSI, this time in Perugia. This Mobility was welcoming the same 20 Spanish teachers and 20 Italian teachers that already met in Barcelona during the first Teacher Training in June 2015 to continue the training activities. Topics of this second Teacher Training were again Prosociality and Social and Emotional Learning, but in this phase the focus was on Social and Emotional Learning. The training sessions were held at the Department of Philosophy, Social and Human Sciences and Education of the University of Perugia.

Both Teacher Trainings were introducing and based on PROSEL, the new programme for “Prosociality and Social and Emotional Learning” designed within the EBE-EUSMOSI initiative. While the lessons during the first Teacher Training in Barcelona were more frontal, the teachers had the chance during this second Teacher Training to closely work together, in mixed groups, on assignments based on the PROSEL programme developed by Dr. Roche and Dr. Morganti. During the training, the teachers have been actively involved and were asked to give advice, feedback and to tell to their trainers their experiences and raise questions, in order to create a more engaging teacher training.

The social aspects of this second mobility were also highlighted and the two groups of Spanish and Italian teachers kept on building their friendship that was reflected in the way they conducted the group works and in the outcomes they presented.

Before the beginning of the school year, the coordinators of Barcelona and Perugia worked on the Guidelines for Teachers, and, as decided in the Kick-Off Meeting, the work in Spanish and Italian schools will focus on the merger of the two frameworks: Prosociality and Social and Emotional Learning. The starting date for the work of teachers in schools with their pupils of grade 4 of primary school was on October 15th in both Countries (Spain and Italy). In Perugia, the launching was done via Skype: all involved schools were connected through their accounts via Skype with the EBE-EUSMOSI team in Perugia that greeted the children and welcomed them as fundamental project participants. Prior to the Skype call, the children were shown a “welcome on board” video, recorded by the Italian team in Ljubljana, who introduced themselves one by one. The enthusiasm, interest and will to further collaborate and learn of the teachers are very high and tangible until today.

More news will follow in the next months when the class monitoring will take place.
